What is Laser Engraving?

Laser engraving is where lasers are used to engrave, etch, or mark an object such as engraved trophies, engraved gifts or engraved corporate awards. The technique is highly technical and complex utilising a computer system to drive the movements of the laser head. Despite the complexity, very precise and clean engravings can be achieved at a high rate, it is this level of detail that makes it ideal for creating a high quality, cost effective means of personal engraved gifts and awards. The laser engraving technique does not involve tool bits which contact the surface of the product being engraved. In view of this laser engraving is at an advantage over alternative engraving, and less modern, technologies where bit heads have to be replaced regularly.

The impact of laser engraving has been more pronounced for specially-designed "laserable" materials. These include, glass, polymer, acrylics, leather, card, granite, metal alloys, slate.. infact most materials.

In situations where physical alteration of a surface by engraving is undesirable, alternatives exist such as "marking". This is a term that covers a broad spectrum of surfacing techniques, including printing and hot-branding. In many instances, laser engraving machines are able to do marking that was not previously possible by other conventional processes.
